A Nepali date calculator converts dates between Bikram Sambat (BS), the calendar used in Nepal, and the Gregorian calendar (AD). Enter a date in the calendar you know to find its corresponding date in the other; this page calculates the number of days between two Gregorian dates, a useful interval when planning dates across calendars. For an exact BS-to-AD conversion, use a verified Nepali calendar conversion tool or an official calendar because BS months have variable lengths.
Formula
This calculator gives an approximate interval between two dates by converting their year, month, and day differences into average days:
D = |(Y₂ − Y₁) × 365.2425 + (M₂ − M₁) × 30.436875 + (d₂ − d₁)|
- D is the estimated number of days between dates, in days.
- Y₁, M₁, d₁ are the start year, month number, and day number.
- Y₂, M₂, d₂ are the corresponding end-date values.
- 365.2425 is the approximate mean length of a Gregorian year in days; 30.436875 is that average divided by 12.
This deliberately simple formula is not a date-validity checker or an exact calendar conversion. It does not account for the different lengths of individual Gregorian months or leap-day placement. It is included to calculate a rough interval, not to substitute for a proper date calculator or BS calendar converter.
Worked Example
Using the calculator’s default values, the start date is 1 January 2026 and the end date is 5 November 2026.
- Year difference: 2026 − 2026 = 0 years.
- Month difference: 11 − 1 = 10 months.
- Day difference: 5 − 1 = 4 days.
- Substitute: |(0 × 365.2425) + (10 × 30.436875) + 4|.
- Calculate: |304.36875 + 4| = 308.36875, rounded to a whole day: 308 days.
What a Nepali Date Calculator Does
In Nepal, “Nepali date” usually means a date in Bikram Sambat, abbreviated BS. A converter maps a date in BS to its Gregorian equivalent, often labeled AD, or converts in the opposite direction. This is different from simply changing a year number: the two calendars have different month structures, new-year dates, and year lengths.
A date calculator may also offer practical tools such as adding days, finding the days between dates, showing the weekday, or displaying a calendar month. Check which feature you need before entering information. The interval calculator above accepts month numbers and day numbers and returns an approximate Gregorian-based day count; it cannot read or convert a BS date.
Why BS and Gregorian Dates Differ
The Gregorian calendar is the civil calendar used internationally and has 12 months. Most years have 365 days, with leap years adding a day to February under the familiar century rules. Bikram Sambat is a separate solar calendar with 12 months, but its month lengths are not all fixed at the Gregorian lengths of 28 to 31 days.
BS dates are commonly written with the year first, followed by month and day, such as 2083-01-01. The BS new year generally begins in April, so a BS year overlaps parts of two Gregorian years. The exact corresponding Gregorian date depends on the specific BS year and month. A fixed offset such as “BS is 56 or 57 years ahead” is only a rough description of year numbers, not a safe conversion formula for a particular day.
How to Convert a Date Reliably
For an exact conversion, use a converter that explicitly supports both Bikram Sambat and Gregorian dates. Follow these steps:
- Select the direction: BS to AD, or AD to BS.
- Choose the calendar first, then enter the year, month, and day in the corresponding fields.
- Check that the chosen day exists in that month and year. A day number valid in one year may not be valid in another.
- Read the result with its calendar label. Do not assume that an unmarked year or month is Gregorian.
- For an important appointment, travel booking, government form, or historical record, confirm the result against a dependable Nepali calendar or the organization that issued the date.
Different websites may display dates differently, including year-month-day or day-month-year order. When sharing a converted date, include “BS” or “AD” and write the month name if ambiguity is possible.
Using the Days-Between Calculator
The small calculator at the top accepts numeric Gregorian year, month, and day fields for two dates. It reports a whole-day estimate using average month and year lengths. For the defaults it returns 308 days, but an exact Gregorian count for those same dates is 308 days because the date interval happens to be straightforward; the estimate can differ for other pairs, especially when month lengths or leap days matter.
For exact elapsed days, use a calendar-aware date difference tool that validates each date and accounts for leap years and actual month lengths. Also decide whether you want elapsed days or an inclusive count. From Monday to Tuesday, the elapsed interval is one day; counting both named dates as calendar days gives two. Many date tools use elapsed-day counting unless they offer an inclusive option.
Common Errors and Limits
- Mixing calendars: A year such as 2083 could be interpreted as BS or AD. Select the calendar explicitly.
- Assuming a fixed year offset: BS and Gregorian New Year begin at different times, so an offset alone cannot identify the matching date.
- Entering an invalid date: Month lengths change by calendar and year. Use a converter that rejects impossible dates rather than silently adjusting them.
- Confusing date order: Check whether a form expects day-month-year or year-month-day.
- Treating an average as exact: The calculator’s formula approximates months and years. It is not suitable for exact deadlines or official date conversion.
For a date range that crosses time zones or a daylight-saving transition, a day count and an elapsed-hours count can also differ. This calculator works with calendar-number inputs only; it has no time zone or time-of-day fields.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert a Nepali date to English date?
Select BS-to-AD in a Bikram Sambat converter, enter the BS year, month, and day, and read the result labeled AD or Gregorian. Confirm important dates with a reliable Nepali calendar.
Is Nepali date the same as Bikram Sambat?
In common usage, “Nepali date” usually refers to the Bikram Sambat calendar used in Nepal. If a source uses another calendar, check its label rather than assuming it means BS.
Can I calculate a BS date by adding 56 years to an AD date?
No. The year-number difference is not a complete conversion method. The calendars have different New Year dates and month patterns, so the exact day requires a calendar-aware converter.
Does this calculator convert Bikram Sambat dates?
No. The calculator above estimates days between two numeric Gregorian dates. Use a dedicated BS-to-AD or AD-to-BS converter for calendar conversion.
Why do two date calculators give different results?
They may use different calendar data, interpret input order differently, or count the start date inclusively. Verify the calendar labels and counting convention, then check the date against a dependable calendar.
