How to Add a Credit Card to Microsoft Edge Wallet

Guide 10-8213 · Updated · Step by step

This guide walks you through saving a credit card in Microsoft Edge Wallet so checkout forms autofill faster and you don’t have to hunt for your card number every time. You’ll need your physical card (or its details) and a Microsoft account signed into Edge. The whole process takes about a minute on a desktop or mobile device.

What You’ll Need

  • Microsoft Edge browser (current version, desktop or mobile)
  • A Microsoft account signed in to Edge (required for syncing)
  • Your credit card – card number, expiration date, and CVV
  • Your billing address (optional but recommended for autofill)

Step-by-Step

On Windows or Mac (Desktop)

  1. Open Microsoft Edge. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
  3. In the left sidebar, click Profiles (or your profile icon at the top).
  4. Click Payment info – it’s usually under the “Your profile” section.
  5. Click the blue Add card button. A form appears.
  6. Enter your card number, cardholder name (exactly as printed), expiration month/year, and CVV. Some versions also ask for a nickname (e.g., “Personal Visa”).
  7. Optionally, check “Save to Microsoft Wallet” if you want it available across devices via your Microsoft account.
  8. Click Save. Your card is now stored and will autofill on supported sites.

On Android or iOS (Mobile)

  1. Open the Edge app. Tap the three-dot menu (⋯) at the bottom (Android) or top (iOS).
  2. Tap Settings (gear icon).
  3. Tap Payment info under the profile section.
  4. Tap Add card.
  5. Fill in the card details manually, or tap the camera icon to scan your card – Edge will read the number and expiration date automatically.
  6. Review the info, optionally add your billing address, then tap Save.

Once saved, Edge will suggest the card in the payment fields. On desktop, click the field and choose the card; on mobile, tap the autofill prompt.

Common Mistakes

  • Typing the cardholder name wrong – it must match the card exactly, including middle initials or suffixes. A mismatch can cause payment failures.
  • Entering the expiration date in the wrong order – most forms use MM/YY, but some use MM/YYYY. Double-check the format shown.
  • Skipping the billing address – many online stores require it, and without it Edge can’t autofill the full form.
  • Not saving to Microsoft Wallet – if you don’t check that box, the card is only on that device, not synced.
  • Adding a card that’s already expired – Edge will still store it, but it won’t work. Remove old cards to avoid clutter.

Tips

  • Use the camera scan on mobile – it’s faster and reduces typos. Always verify the scanned number, especially with embossed cards.
  • Add your billing address in Edge Settings → Personal info so it fills together with the card.
  • Enable sync (Settings → Profiles → Sync) so your cards appear on all your devices. Cards are encrypted and only shown after you sign in.
  • If you share a computer, consider using a separate Edge profile for each person – cards are stored per profile.
  • Periodically review your saved cards and delete any you no longer use. This reduces risk if your device is lost.

Troubleshooting

Card won’t save / “Save” button is grayed out. Usually a missing required field. Check that you’ve entered all digits of the card number (no spaces), a valid expiration date in the future, and a CVV (often 3 digits). If it’s still stuck, close and reopen Edge, then try again.

Card saves but doesn’t autofill on a website. Some sites disable autofill for security. Try clicking directly into the card number field – Edge should show a dropdown. If not, check that the site is not in your “Never save” list. Go to Settings → Payment info → the three-dot menu next to the card → Edit and make sure it’s not marked as “Never autofill.”

Card appears on one device but not another. Sync might be off. On the device missing the card, go to Settings → Profiles → Sync and turn on Payment info. Also verify you’re signed in with the same Microsoft account.

Card details are wrong after scanning. Tap the card in Payment info, choose Edit, and correct the fields manually. Save again.

Edge asks for CVV every time. That’s a security feature – some sites require it. Edge stores the CVV but may not autofill it on all sites. You can re-enter it manually.

Can’t find “Payment info” in Settings. In older Edge versions, it was under Profiles → Payment info. If you don’t see it, update Edge to the latest version (Help → About Microsoft Edge).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to save my credit card in Edge? Yes, Edge encrypts saved payment data and requires your device sign-in to access it. Microsoft does not share your card number with websites – it only provides it to the site you’re paying.

Can I remove a card later? Absolutely. Go to Settings → Payment info, click the three-dot menu next to the card, and choose Delete.

Does Edge store my CVV? Yes, it stores the CVV along with the card number and expiration date, but it may not always autofill it on every site for security reasons.

Will my card sync across all my devices? Only if you enable sync for payment info in Edge Settings → Profiles → Sync. It also requires you to be signed in with the same Microsoft account.

What if my card expires? Do I need to delete it? You can simply edit the card and update the expiration date. Edge will use the new date. If you get a new card number, delete the old one and add the new one.

Can I use Edge Wallet to pay in stores? No, Edge Wallet is for online autofill only. It doesn’t support contactless payments in physical stores.
